There was a large quantity of training material presented on this CD. Media included MPEG video, PDF templates and work sheets, WAV audio voice-overs, animations and quizzes.
A big percentage of the audio was in lecture format without supporting graphics, thus requiring bullet points to help keep the user on track. The sample screens our client provided included a nice drop-shadow effect on the bullet points, created in PhotoShop.
Anticipating inevitable changes and additions during development, we simplified edits by moving the bullet point creation process from PhotoShop to Director. First, we wrote a quick utility to batch import the bulk of bullet points from the draft script into separate Director text members, with an appropriate naming convention. Then we programmed an automation tool xtra to be used for batch conversion of all the bullet point live text members to alpha channeled bitmaps with the added drop-shadow. Whenever we needed to publish the latest build for testing or mastering purposes, all we had to do was run the tool before protecting the files, thus automatically incorporating the latest changes.
