Client: Houseworth Design Group
Among the several interesting wrinkles on this project, our client was being requested to straighten out a disorganized mess of data assembled in a previous version done by someone else, because the end client could no longer find some of the source data. The previous developers used sub-standard software and inconsistent programming techniques, which served to obfuscate the data and make it impossible to simply update or extend.
To avoid this in the future, our client needed not only to produce a working CD-ROM, but also make it possible to export the newly reorganized and extended data in a generic format, so the end client would have the flexibility to re-purpose at a later date. We recommended using the extremely fast Valentina database engine. Now the data can be exported whenever needed, plus we were able to access it at run-time with terrific performance using the Valentina Xtra with Director.
We used imaging Lingo in creating a graphing module for this project, allowing us to chart the performance data from the database in real time. This gave us complete control over the appearance, plus saved tons of time and disc space by not having to create image files of graphs for all the possible permutations of properties, values and units.
We will be publishing a Case Study for this project soon!
