A tractor-trailer rig was turned into a traveling tradeshow booth and digital art gallery to tour the United States promoting the use of software published by Procreate, as well as the products and services of numerous partners in the venture, including Epson, Intel, Minolta, Nikon, Sony, Wacom, Corel, Discreet, Gretag, Macromedia, Maya, Netopia, Viewpoint, Art Institutes, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Museums Without Walls. The first stop on the tour was Macworld New York 2002.
Our part was to create the interactive digital art gallery that would run on four separate Titanium G4s with trackballs as their only user input device. The gallery featured a large number of artists and museums, as well as materials from the many sponsoring companies. The types of media that had to be seamlessly displayed within our gallery software included: images stored in several different file formats, Flash movies, digital video, digital audio, Acrobat PDF files and live web sites. It was also expected that new individuals and companies might be added at various times during the tour.
We designed and programmed a menu display object that featured stylish translucency effects and allowed its color and opacity properties to be adjusted easily by our client. At run time, the menu system was populated dynamically with data from our proprietary database, which also could be easily updated by our client's personnel who would be accompanying the tour.
A case study will soon be published for this project.
